How to get there?

How to get there?

Public transport is the most practical – and most convenient – way to get to Rock Werchter. Leuven railway station is the centre point of the festival weekend. It’s easily accessible, wherever you come from. The De Lijn bus company is running a continuous shuttle service between Leuven railway station and the festival site. Upon presentation of your festival ticket (or e-train ticket that holders of an e-festival ticket can download for free) you will be able to take the train from anywhere in Belgium to Leuven and back again, all for free. Moreover, the special bus service between Leuven station and the Festival Park is included in the price of your festival-ticket. Leuven is also the ideal meeting point to drop people off and/or find people that you are looking for.

By train

Each classic admission ticket is valid for one return trip to and from each Belgian railway station (*) from and to LEUVEN and for the final trajectory by bus, operated by De Lijn, between Leuven station and the Festival Park.

Attention: the e-festival ticket is NOT valid as a train ticket, but it does entitle its holder to obtain one free named e-train ticket for a return trip to Leuven (final trajectory by bus inclued). Festival goers who come from abroad can combine their classic admission ticket with a return ticket from a foreign railway network to the Belgian border. Dutch students can use their OV student card for a free trip to the Belgian border. As from there, their Rock-Werchter ticket (not the e-festival ticket) or e-train ticket becomes the valid railway pass.

Important: The conditions of validity of classic admission tickets and e-train tickets are now further specified and depend on the kind of camp-site ticket one owns : Classic admission tickets and e-train tickets are also valid as an SNCB train ticket for one round second-class trip from each and every Belgian railway station (*) to LEUVEN for the period between Wednesday 06/27/2012-11 AM and Monday 07/02/2012. They are also valid for the final trajectory by bus – operated by DE LIJN – from LEUVEN station to Werchter's Festival Park in the period between Thursday 06/28/2012 and Monday 07/02/2012. Only in case one is in the possession of a camp-site XL ticket, the classic admission ticket and the e-train ticket are valid for the bus as from Wednesday 06/28/2012 at 1 PM.

(*) When the point of departure or the point of destination is Brussels National-Airport the Diabolo surcharge is applicable.

IMPORTANT: check out www.nmbs.be/rockwerchter for the terms and conditions of any type of ticket and how to order your e-train ticket.

By car or motorbike

Visitors arriving by car or motorbike should follow a route determined by their provenance. That way, arrivals and departures will be more spread and there will be less traffic jams.

Important: follow the signposts and put out the GPS if you don’t want to get lost!

  • Coming from the directions E40 Oostende - Ghent, E429 Lille - Tournai - Halle or from the west side of Brussels, take the northern ring road of Brussels, in the direction of Mechelen. At the interchange of Machelen, take the exit E19 / Cargo. Signposting to Rock Werchter starts at the exit  « Cargo » on the E19 Motorway.
  • Coming from the directions Waterloo, E411 Namur – Wavre, E19 Charleroi - Mons or Brussels, take the eastern ring road of Brussels and then the motorways E40 and E314 in the direction of Leuven. Don’t take the exit to Leuven itself but keep following the E314 until signposting to Rock Werchter starts.
  • Coming from the directions Aachen – Liège, take the motorways E40 and E314 in the direction of Leuven. Don’t take the exit to Leuven itself but keep following the E314 until signposting to Rock Werchter starts.
  • Coming from the directions Antwerp, Breda, Bergen-op-Zoom or Turnhout-Eindhoven, take the Antwerp ring road and then the E19 motorway to Brussels. When passing Mechelen, stay on the E19. Signposting to Rock Werchter starts at exit 11 « Zemst » on the E19.
  • Coming from the directions of Limburg, Maastricht or Germany: at the interchange of Lummen, take the E314 in the direction of Leuven. Signposting  to Rock Werchter starts at exit « Aarschot» on the E314.
It is advised to take the same route for returning. There will be specific signposting to lead you to your motorway entry.
In the vicinity of the festival ground there are about fifteen parking lots, all of them within walking distance of the festival site and the camping lots and run by local organisations. For safety reasons, no cars, folding trailers or any other vehicles are allowed at the camping facilities, just like previous years.

Parkings are divided into 3 zones (zones A, B and C). Each of the visitor routes leads to one of these zones. It is advised not to change zones because traffic jams will then be highly probable. But in case you must, there is specific signposting allowing you to switch zones.

Parking your car costs 15 euros.  Attention: The parking sticker must affixed to the car as proof of payment. Each parking lot has a different sticker. Normally speaking, the parking fee should only paid once. When you decide to drive away from the parking lot, though, and the parking lot turns out be full upon returning, then you must buy a new parking sticker in order to park at another parking lot. If the parking lot for which you have purchased a parking sticker still has parking spots available, you can just go and repark your car there.

There will be a guarded motorbike parking lot. More info about this later.

By motorhome

The motorhome parking A7 is at the end of the “Wilde Heide”, a side street of the “Keerbergsesteenweg” in Haacht. Follow the general visitor signposting to Rock Werchter.

There, follow the direction Keerbergen / zone B, C. You will arrive atomatically in the “Keerbergsesteenweg”. The first street to the right is the “Wilde Heide”. There is also specific signposting upon arrival in Haacht.

From the E314 motorway, exit 22 – Aarschot, follow Rock Werchter signposting until Betekom roundabout (where the school Sint-Jozefinstituut is located). Turn to the right and follow the route to Haacht / zone A. It will bring you via Tremelo and Keerbergen to the “Haachtsebaan”. After the bidge over the river Dijle, you will arrive in Haacht on the “Keerbergsesteenweg”. The second street on the left is the “Wilde Heide”. There is also specific signposting upon arrival in Keerbergen.

By bicycle

KBC, in association with Argus (KBC's environmental organisation), will once again operate three guarded bicycle shelters. The service is free of charge and the shelters are permanently guarded. At every KBC bicycle shelter there is also a (limited) number of spots for mopeds.

Zone A: Haachtsesteenweg, at about 100 metres from the festival ground.
Zone B: Provinciebaan, at walking distance from the festival ground.
Zone 3: the familiar spot, i.e. at Werchter's village square.

Kiss and ride

Are you being dropped off or picked up, then meet each other at the trainstation in Leuven. From there you can take the free bus to the camp-site or the festivalground. That way you avoid the traffic jams around Werchter. The festival surrounding is closed for traffic. It’s impossible to be dropped off or picked up near Werchter. If you are using a gps, type ‘Tiensevest Leuven’ as a destination. You can step out in front of the KBC-office near the trainstation.
