Kai Uwe Faust is a German tattoo artist specialising in ancient Norse designs. So, you can probably guess what his musical project sounds like. He teamed up with Danish producer Christopher Juul and Norwegian singer Maria Franz to create Heilung, an experimental folk band that connects the medieval history and mythology of Northern Europe with the world of today. The trio calls that “amplified history”. Their lyrics are drawn from primal songs and inscriptions from the Bronze and Viking Ages. The music consists of dark soundscapes filled with ancient instruments like drums, horns, and bones. Live, this transforms into an awe-inspiring total spectacle that feels more like a ritual or ceremony than an ordinary concert.
