Sylvie Kreusch

As a young girl, Sylvie Kreusch wrote in her scrapbook that she wanted to become a singer when she grows up. And lo and behold. With the group Soldier’s Heart, she won the first edition of Studio Brussel’s De Nieuwe Lichting in 2013. The next stop became Warhaus. Her surname was turned into a song title. On ‘Montbray’ (2021), she finally gets a chance in the driver’s seat for herself. That sensual work expresses a great love for Nina Simone and Grace Jones. And for the seventies chanson by Françoise Hardy and Mireille Mathieu. Kreusch is received as a burgeoning young pop queen. She continues to hone her skills relentlessly. “Her performance is so beautifully realised that it seems like magic”. So goes the description from a review of het recent appearance at Eurosonic, the leading showcase festival in Europe. And she’s certainly got the songs. Every track on ‘Comic trip’ (2024) somehow sounds both classic and very much of-the-moment.
