A look back at another epic edition of Rock Werchter
Last night, Foo Fighters closed out Rock Werchter 2024. The 48th edition of the four-day festival will go down in history as a top year. All booked artists were present, along with 155,000 unique visitors.
Our notes:
- Reviewers generously gave out stars this weekend. The shows were outstanding, with artists at their best. Thomas Raggi, guitarist of Måneskin, was spotted in Werchter on Thursday. He happily posed for a photo with Lenny Kravitz and Greta Van Fleet after which he caught a few concerts. On Friday, before he would headline, he joined Tom Morello in The Barn. They performed the hit "Gossip" together. Glints, with a broken wrist, invited Daan, Blu Samu and Yong Yello.
- There were no cancellations. 100 artists booked, 100 artists present.
- Well received: a brand new KluB C tent and an upgraded The Barn.
- There was wind, there was sun. That greatly benefited local energy production through the on site windmill and solar panels.
- Due to the wet weather over the past weeks and months, fewer parking tickets were available because not all areas were sufficiently dry. The call to consider alternative options (public transportation, bicycle) was heard. Each festival day, 20,000 bikes were parked (a record!). Daily, 17,000 festival-goers commuted to Werchter from Leuven or Aarschot.
- The festival was particularly calm for the emergency services. The Red Cross recorded 4,300 medical interventions from Wednesday to Sunday. That’s significantly fewer than in previous years.
- Despite the bad weather of the past weeks, the Festivalpark was in very good condition. Kudos to the site crew!
- Sebastian Danzig of Palaye Royale and his girlfriend brought their little dog to the festival. Mishka stole hearts. Watch here.
- As seen on the festival grounds: Brian from Florida making this great live drawings. See his coverage of Rock Werchter 2024 via @showdrawn.
Rock Werchter 2025 will take place from 3 July to 6 July. It will be a celebration year as the festival turns 50 (°1975).
