Blanco White

Spanish flamenco, Argentinian bailecito and Chilean cueca. Hot genres that you might not expect from a London-based folk singer. That’s why Josh Edwards chose the more poetic appellation Blanco White, a name derived from the Spanish writer José Maria Blanco White. His life has had a southern flavour from a young age. He first travelled to South America at the age of 10, studied Spanish at university and, in Bolivia, he learned to play the charango, a Latin American string instrument that now lies at the centre of his musical universe. It’s his captivating voice that stands out the most, however: its powerful yet dulcet tones evoking dreamlike landscapes. Strongly recommended to those who enjoy Ben Howard, RY X or Xavier Rudd.
