Dasha
Country rules the world! It’s amazing what a big thing this genre is these days. Everyone seems to have set their sights on country success lately. Just think of the hits by Lil Nas X (‘Old Town Road’) and Shaboozey (‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’), the award-winning album ‘Cowboy Carter’ by Beyoncé and the duet by Anne-Marie and Shania Twain (‘UNHEALTHY). The outlier in this list is ‘Austin (Boots Stop Workin’)’ (2024) by Dasha. Country songs by absolute newcomers generally don’t make the charts. But the Czech-born singer-songwriter– her full name is Anna Dasha Novotnym – gave it her best shot. She moved to Nashville, the mecca of country music, and learned to line dance. Her charm offensive was successful. Dasha wrangled gigs at the CMT Music Awards and at the famed Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
