Maribou State

Maribou State creates electronic music with soul. This mix of synthetic and organic is the product of the histories of founders Chris Davids and Liam Ivory. In their youth they played guitar and bass in a rock band. They discovered electronic music and black music at university. These influences led to ‘Portraits’ (2015), the birth of Maribou State and a record that’s the musical equivalent of a beautiful dream. Intoxicating beats and samples meticulously coated in bass, guitar, drums and percussion. For ‘Kingdoms in Colour’ (2018) the duo went in search of more sounds from Beijing, Delhi, Lisbon and Sydney. Khruangbin played a guest role. After a long hiatus, they finally announced ‘Hallucinating Love’ (2025). The voice of permanent member Holly Walker adds yet another dynamic to the stage.
