girl in red
It all starts with a text message. In 2017, Marie Ulven Ringheim falls in love with her best friend. She sees her at a concert and sends the message “girl in red.” Nothing comes of it between the two, but the excitement she feels becomes the driving force behind her music. The Norwegian twentysomething creates it on the guitar her grandfather gave her for Christmas years ago. Her first release, “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend” (2018), turns Ringheim into an icon of the LGBTQIA+ community. Her role model is Taylor Swift, with whom she gets to tour in the United States. Her second album, “I’m Doing It Again, Baby!” (2024), proves that girl in red is here to stay. It also marks her first entry into the American Billboard 200.
