Gurriers
Gurrier is an old Irish word for troublemaker or street urchin. So, it’s hardly surprising that the group with the same name deals in raw punk with sharp social criticism. The most obvious comparisons are IDLES and compatriots Fontaines D.C. and The Murder Capital. The five from Dublin call their mission a counterattack against the malaise of today's world. The main themes in their universe are alienation, online narcissism, migration and the rise of the far right. Gurriers are unvarnished and caustic, but there’s also a lot of poetry and beauty in the way they tackle all that misery. Their first release 'Come and see' (2024) is a beautiful cross between a collection of poems and a mosh pit.
