MRCY
Barney Lister and Kojo Degraft-Johnson are connected by their great passion for the musical legacy and social conscience of Marvin Gaye. He is the author of the song 'Mercy mercy me (the ecology)' (1971). Hence the group name MRCY. Incidentally, the two can also talk for hours about Anderson.Paak or Leon Bridges, too. In other words, they love soul. Which, according to Barney, stands for "good people making music that matters". He is a sought-after producer from the northern university town of Huddersfield who has worked with Obongjayar and Oliva Dean. His mate Kojo is a Londoner from the talented scene that also produced Cleo Sol and Little Simz. MRCY made its convincing debut in February 2024 with ‘Lorelei’, alternative soul that is the most exciting new sound in the genre since Gabriëls and SAULT.
