Durand Jones & The Indications
Durand Jones’ grandmother sent her grandson to the local youth choir in Louisiana because he was always singing. The first time the young boy takes a solo, the whole church goes wild. His career choice is made. During his studies at Indiana University, Durand discovers soul music via ‘Dock of the Bay’, the classic by Otis Redding. He makes a heavy version of it with some fellow students. Durand Jones & The Indications are born. It’s a deep soul band in the footsteps of Curtis Harding and the late Charles Bradley. With a special vocal interplay between Jones’ warm timbre and the falsetto of drummer Aaron Frazer. In a small basement studio, the group records a spectacular debut album in 2016 for just 450 dollars. Gradually, they broaden their horizons, embracing funk and disco. In the meantime, they have released 2 albums and are admired for their unfailingly impeccable concerts.
