Soulwax

The Dewaele brothers, three thundering drummers and electronically driven dance rock. That’s the shortest way to sum up Soulwax in 2025. It feels worlds away from ‘2nd handsome blues’, the first sign of life that dropped exactly 30 years ago. Back then, the band sounded like a more traditional guitar group, heavily influenced by desert rock bands like Kyuss and Masters of Reality. And that’s still part of Soulwax’s DNA. Their album ‘Nite versions’ (2005) also marking an anniversary this year, brings everything together nicely. It’s a collection of remixes from their previous rock album ‘Any minute now,’ released a year earlier. That’s the moment when Soulwax truly finds its groove, a perfect marriage of alternative rock and electronic music. And this is their seventh time hitting that sweet spot.
